Welcome! The City of Whiteville Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of opportunities to Whiteville citizens and residents of Columbus County. The opening of Whiteville’s first recreation center will allow us to provide a variety of activities and programs for youth, adults, and senior citizens. The department sponsors youth football, softball, baseball, cheerleading, basketball, Tennis, Track, fitness, and other activities. These programs are designed to offer a fun experience, along with a chance to learn and grow through team and individual play. No matter what your age may be, there are a variety of opportunities that you can be involved in through the city’s many recreation programs

The Recreation Center is located on 255 Rec Center Drive. The center is open 9 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the center is open for scheduled events. Closed on all city observed holidays observed by the City.

The Parks and Recreation Department oversees eight facilities/parks: East Side Park, Nolan Avenue, West Side Park, West Columbus Street, Felix Smith Park, Franklin Street, Jaycee Park, Mill Street, Leder Park, Lee Street, Doc Currie Park, Warrior Trail, Oliver Square, J. K. Powell Blvd. North, and the Recreation Center, Rec Center Drive. The department provides for the maintenance and operation of these facilities.

The East Side Park and West Side Park have a picnic shelter with restroom facilities, a playground area, tennis courts, and a lighted sports field used for baseball, soccer, and softball.

Programs/Activities
These programs are designed to offer a fun experience, along with a chance to learn and grow through team and individual play.

Baseball
T-Ball
Recreation T-Ball is designed for youth ages 4-5. This is the introductory stage to baseball. Youth are taught how to hit the ball off the tee and run the bases like in a baseball game. This game is used to teach them how to run, catch, and throw.

Coach’s Pitch
Coach’s Pitch baseball is designed for youth ages 6-7. This is the stage used to teach kids how to run, throw, catch, and watch the coach pitch to them, so they can get used to playing baseball while facing a pitcher.

Minor League Baseball
Minor league baseball is designed for youth ages 8-10. This program is designed to teach kids the game of baseball completely from running, catching, throwing, and stealing bases. Youth have the ability to compete in a 15 game season as well as divisional playoffs.

Major League Baseball
Major league baseball is designed for youth ages 11-12. This program is designed to teach team development and the game completely from every aspect. This group has the ability to play major tournament playoff games at the end of the season.

Dixie Boys Baseball
Dixie Boys baseball is designed for youth ages 13-14. This program is designed to teach team development and compete on the state level. This group has the ability to play against state competition and national competition.

Softball
Men’s Softball
Recreation Men’s Softball League is an Industrial League designed for teams from all over the county. This league plays under the SSAA division (Southern Softball Association of America). This league is a sanction league, designed to help the men’s team compete in sanction tournaments nationwide.

Basketball
Recreation Basketball is designed for youth between the ages of 5 – 12. Three divisions divide the youth to enhance skill development.

Jr. Pee Wee
This division consists of youth ages 5 – 7. This division help introduce kids to running, passing, and shooting the basketball as well as team development.

Pee Wee
This division consist of youth 8-9. This division helps kids in running, passing, shooting, and team development.

Midget League
This league is designed for youth between the ages of 10-12, in which they are taught team development, running, passing, and shooting.

Men’s Basketball
Recreation Men’s Basketball is an Industrial League designed to give teams the opportunity to have fun and recreation. This league plays a competitive schedule designed to enhance community development throughout the county.

Football
Recreation Football is designed for youth between the ages of 5-12. Three divisions divide the youth to enhance skill development.

Flag Football
This division is designed for youth ages 5-7. Flag Football will introduce youth to the skill of running and catching the football.

Termite Football
This division is a tackle division for youth ages 8 – 9. This division is used to help kids run, catch, and tackle.

Midget League Tackle
This league is designed for youth 10-12. This division allows the youth to learn how to run, catch, tackle, and run defensive schemes.
